Celebrating the life of

Ann G. McClure

January 17, 1935 - October 30, 2016

Ann G. McClure

SAVANNAH – Beatrice (Ann) Gordon McClure, 81, of Savannah, Georgia, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, October 30th, after a battle with cancer. Ann was born January 17, 1935 to Morris Edward and Virginia Evans Gordon in Canton, Ohio, but lived most of her young life in Coshocton, Ohio.

Ann graduated with honors from Roscoe High School where she participated in many activities and served as class officer, a band member, choir accompanist, and cheerleader. She graduated in 1956 from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, with a BS in Business and was a Vice-President and Pledge Trainer of Sigma Kappa Sorority and President of the YWCA.

In her first marriage to Robert O. Bannon, she was blessed with two children: Rick Gordon Bannon and Lisa Michelle Bannon. In 1979 she married Rex A. McClure, who was her college sweetheart, at which time she gained three step-children (she soon dropped the “step”), Suzanne, Elaine, and Steve, and they became a special part of her life.

Her working career was quite varied as she taught school, served as secretary and associate to a CPA, was an administrative assistant in a manufacturing company, and a small business owner and operator of two different businesses.

Ann enjoyed life as an adventure and tried to do her best to show her love and devotion to her family, friends, and associates. One of her greatest pleasures was playing the piano and she did so from the age of 5. Traveling was also a great pleasure and she was able to complete most of her “bucket list” of countries she wanted to visit! Volunteering was a top priority and during the years she served on Head Start, Hospital and Country Club Boards; and was a hospital volunteer and a public school tutor with L.O.V.E. She served as an ordained elder in both the Methodist and Presbyterian Churches; while in Savannah she was a member of Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church and was a long-time member of Chapter BB of P.E.O.

She was predeceased by her loving parents and her older brother, Dr. Donald E. Gordon, and her first husband. She is survived by her devoted husband of 37 years, Rex A. McClure, brother, Ron Gordon and sister, Linda McMillen (Randy), her children, Rick Bannon (Julie), Lisa Bannon (former husband, David Junk), Suzanne Kelly (Marty), Elaine Nesbitt (Bill), Steve McClure (Mary Lee), and grandchildren, Jessica Pruitt (Vance), Tyler Bannon (Dana), Devon McClure (Kate), Chris and Evan Junk, and Alex Andrew, Joey and Katie McClure; 4 great-grandchildren, Vance, Jacob, Carson, and Lillian, and many special nieces and nephews and their families.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church with Jeff Garrison officiating. There will be a reception following the service in Liston Hall.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church, 50 Diamond Causeway, Savannah, GA 31411, the American Cancer Society, THA Group, Island Hospice, 1000 Towne Center Blvd., Suite 303, Pooler, GA 31322,  or to a favorite charity of ones’ choice.

We are so sorry for your loss. Even though we only had the one opportunity to meet Ann, we were able to know she was a special person. Please accept our deepest condolences.

I am very sorry to hear of your loss. The lost of a loved one grieves the heart and words are never enough to take away the pain. However, our Heavenly Father knows your grief. As a loving and caring Father, He will be there to comfort and sooth your "broken-heart and crushed spirit". ( Psalm 34:18 ). May you find comfort and hope in God's promise of a day when you will reunite with your loved one again. ( Isaiah 26:19 ). My sincere condolences to the family.

My love and prayers are with all of the family. I have been close friends with Julie and Rick for many years and had the privilege of knowing Ann. I will remember her for her grace and soft-spoken voice, her smile and her kindness. She was the definition of a "lady." I know she has made a beautiful mark on many hearts and will be greatly missed. Carmen Bender
